Discussion Questions for January 10th, 2010

Today's sermon deals with the sacred spaces of our lives.  Whether it is daily prayer and devotions, to weekly sabbath we go against the busy-mantra of our culture.

1.  When was the last time you experienced silence?  Can you share with us what it was like?

2.  So many of us are wrapped up in 'doing' that we lose focus of 'being'.  How does focusing on 'being' rather than 'doing' aid us in our search of sacred spaces?

3.  Have you ever held the 'daily office'?  Even for a short while?  What did you experience?

4.  What would your ideal sabbath look like?

Discussion Questions for January 3rd, 2009

Today's sermon is on worshiping God, specifically worship through the tough times in life.  Jeremiah 10:6 says, "LORD, there is no one like you! For you are great, and your name is full of power."  This is the heart of why and an example of how we worship God with our voice.

1.  How have you felt God's presence in the tough times in your life, and how did this affect your worship?

2.  Perhaps times were tough and God felt distant, or far away and silent.  How did this affect your worship?

3.  Like we saw the singers leading the charge into battle; have you ever sung and praised God as you entered into a battle or struggle in your life?

4.  How does praising God through conflict change our perspective of it?

Discussion Questions for November 15th, 2009

Read John 1:10-13 Again.

10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him.11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

Questions:

  1. What message do you hear being spoke to you through in this passage?
  2. Unfortunately, Christians have not always been known for how well we love each-other, or others.  How do we use the principle of simplicity help in becoming more loving people?
  3. What makes giving up control (so hard?  Even when we try and fail a thousand times, we still cling on.  Why is that?
